Virtual Websites: Per-Fund Domains for DPFI Registration

FIPVCC now creates a unique Virtual Website domain for each fund (and firm) so covered entities can satisfy DPFI website fields quickly, including on the Free plan.

The DPFI/DFPI VCC registration workflow expects each covered entity to provide a website. For firms with multiple funds, that can become an operational mess.

We shipped a new Virtual Website feature to solve exactly that.

Why domains are required in practice

California law requires covered-entity registration details to include an internet website. In the portal workflow, this shows up as a required website field during registration and related access requests.

That creates a practical problem: many funds and VCC entities do not maintain dedicated public websites.

You can still register without your own domain, but it is manual

In some cases, registration can still move forward without a dedicated fund website, but it generally requires manual outreach to DFPI/DPFI support.

That path can work, but it adds operational overhead and dependency on manual back-and-forth.

What this does

For every firm and fund in FIPVCC, the system now generates a globally unique fipvcc.org virtual domain you can use in registration forms.

Example format:

  • sample-fund-a1b2c3-web.fipvcc.org

When someone visits that domain, they see:

  • Please contact [Firm Website] for more info.

So each fund has a unique website URL for filing purposes, while still routing attention back to the main firm site.

Why this matters for compliance operations

  • Satisfies the practical need for unique per-fund website entries during registration.
  • Avoids maintaining separate web hosting for each fund just to fill a compliance field.
  • Provides a stopgap for funds/VCCs that do not have dedicated websites.
  • Keeps a consistent public destination tied to the firm website.

Included on Free plan

Virtual Websites are now included on the Free plan, including:

  • Per-fund virtual domains for DPFI registration.
  • A firm-level virtual domain as well.

You can see these in-app where fund details and firm settings are managed, and use them directly in portal registration workflows.

You may be able to use this tool even if your fund or firm does not have a website of its own.
